Essay Children Of Blood And Blood (English)

Children Of Blood And Bone

Introduction

Is revenge pointless? In this essay, I will be writing about revenge In the novel Children Of Blood And Bone written by Tomi Adeyemi. In the novel, there are two characters that are named Zelie. The novel takes place in this place called Orisha.  Zelie belongs to the people of Maji. The Maji had the power of magic until the King of Orisha and his men raided the Maji’s village and took the Magic away from the Maji. Zelie was a diviner, a diviner is some who haven't unlocked their Magic. She eventually becomes a Maji and tries to bring back the magic. I will be talking about chapter 63 Zelie, chapter 75 Zelie, and chapter 80.

Body 1

Revenge is shown in chapter 63 where Zelie says "There’s always a choice. I think people always have a choice between forgiveness and revenge. I think people should choose forgiveness when people are helpful. This is just like in Avatar The Last Airbender when Katara forgave Zuko and not the man who took her mother away.

Body 2

Another chapter that shows the theme of revenge is when Zelie is on the boat. Zelie says “I could skin Saran alive and I still wouldn’t have my revenge". I think this scene is important because Zelie isn't doing it for just herself and revenge she is doing it for her people. This just like Avatar where Aang is trying to save the world from fire lord Ozai.

Body 3

In the scene where Zelie's father dies, and she wants to kill everyone, she hears her father's spirit say "Revenge is pointless". I think this scene is important because revenge is pointless it's just a circle. It's like Avatar where a man takes Katara's mum and then later in his life it comes back and bites him.

  1. Great stuff, Marshall! You have written about the scenes and how they connect to the idea of revenge, as well as making connections to other stories you know (such as Avatar).
